Privacy Policy

Agano Children ("Agano", "we", "our", "us") is a non-profit organisation caring for orphaned and vulnerable children. We take the privacy of donors, sponsors, supporters, partners and — most of all — the children in our care, with the utmost seriousness. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and the rights you have over it.

Who we are

Agano Children is a Kenyan non-profit serving orphaned and vulnerable children through education, feeding, healthcare, shelter, rescue, mentorship and community development programmes. Our registered office is in Kenya. For privacy questions, contact us at info@aganochildren.org.

Information we collect

We only collect information that is necessary for the work we do. This includes:

  • Account information you provide when signing up — name, email and password.
  • Donor and sponsor information — name, email, postal address, phone number, country, and the cause or child you are supporting.
  • Payment information processed by our regulated payment partners (e.g. Paystack). We do not store full card numbers on our servers.
  • Communications — messages you send us through forms, email or our newsletter sign-up.
  • Technical data — IP address, browser type, device information, pages visited and basic analytics.

How we use your information

  • To process donations, sponsorships and issue receipts.
  • To send programme updates, impact stories and sponsorship correspondence.
  • To respond to enquiries and provide support.
  • To comply with legal, regulatory, accounting and audit obligations.
  • To improve our website, programmes and reporting.

We do not sell, rent or trade personal information.

Donor & sponsor information

Donors and sponsors entrust us with personal and financial information. We honour that trust. We use this information solely to administer your gift, keep you informed about the children or programmes you support, and meet our legal and audit obligations. You may opt out of any non-transactional communications at any time using the unsubscribe link in our emails or by contacting us directly.

Cookies & analytics

We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and understand how the site is used in aggregate. We may use privacy-respecting analytics tools to improve the website. You can disable cookies in your browser settings; some parts of the site (such as the donor portal) may not function without them.

Children's privacy

Protecting the children in our care is our highest duty. We follow strict child-safeguarding standards in all photography, storytelling and data handling:

  • We obtain consent from a guardian or caregiver before publishing a child's image or story.
  • We do not publish a child's full name, location, school or other identifying details where doing so could place them at risk.
  • We never publish information that could enable a child to be contacted directly by a member of the public.
  • Sponsors receive updates through Agano only; we do not share children's personal contact information.
  • The website is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Sharing & third parties

We only share personal information with carefully selected service providers who help us operate, including:

  • Payment processors (e.g. Paystack) for processing donations.
  • Email and hosting providers for delivering our service.
  • Auditors, regulators and legal authorities where required by law.

These partners are bound by confidentiality obligations and may only use your data for the purposes we instruct.

Data security

We use industry-standard safeguards — encryption in transit, access controls, secure authentication and regular reviews — to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, but we work continuously to reduce risk and respond promptly to any incident.

How long we keep information

We retain personal information only as long as it is needed for the purposes described above or as required by tax, accounting and regulatory laws. Donor and sponsorship records are retained for the periods required by audit and tax authorities.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate information.
  • Request deletion, subject to legal and audit retention requirements.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.
  • Withdraw consent for marketing communications at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, email info@aganochildren.org.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or the law. The "Last updated" date at the top will always show the current version.
